Build Your Own Bluetooth Speaker
In this class - over the course of one afternoon or two evenings - you can build your own Bluetooth speaker. No experience necessary.
Why build your own? Why not? You'll learn a ton and make something with your own hands that you'll love. All the tools and supplies are provided - the next project you build is up to you.
We'll cover:
- How to properly glue (and clamp) together the enclosure, as well as sanding, finishing
- What parts go into making a speaker, and how they all work
- Skills like soldering as we attach the leads to the drivers
- How amplifiers and digital signal processing work, and how to design and implement the crossover
- Programming the amplifier board with the digital crossover and tone controls
The speaker is the same basic design as the speakers in the passive speaker class, but in this class, we're building a single speaker based around a single Class D amplifier board with onboard DSP. This class also uses prefinished walnut plywood for the enclosure and precision-milled aluminum plate to secure the knobs.
We'll glue and assemble the enclosures, solder our leads to the drivers, and then program the boards. We'll program the digital crossover (which sends the lows to the woofer and the highs to the tweeter) and program controls for bass, treble, and variable loudness too.
Best part is, it's only two nights, or one long afternoon.
Let's demystify this stuff - build something yourself you want to live with.
Evening classes are 2 sessions from 7-10pm, at 267 Douglass Street, in Gowanus.
Next evening class: Feb 11th & 13th (Tue / Thu)
Next weekend class: Sun Feb 2nd
The class is limited to 8 speaker makers, and everyone is welcome to bring a friend (or their kid 14+) to help.
All tools and supplies are provided - just show up.
We'll also have an informal meetup the week before to give it a listen and nerd out a bit. Anyone on the fence about the class is welcome to attend. Contact for more details.
